Indoor Things to Do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg on a Rainy Day
A rain-or-shine list of genuinely indoor attractions in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, with verified hours, group rates, and the big-house indoor pool backup for your whole crew.
The genuinely indoor things to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg on a rainy day are the two towns' ticketed museums, an aquarium, indoor escape rooms, and the indoor ice rink and ice bumper cars at the top of Ober Gatlinburg, all open regardless of weather. Pigeon Forge holds most of these within a mile or two of the Parkway and on The Island, while Gatlinburg's two standouts are Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies downtown and Ober Gatlinburg's mountaintop Adventure Park, reached by an enclosed aerial tram from the downtown Tramway Mall. Below are hours, what is actually under a roof, and which ones work best when a whole group is traveling together.
Quick answer
- WonderWorks (Pigeon Forge): the upside-down building on Music Road, open daily 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with 100+ hands-on exhibits, an indoor ropes course, laser tag and a 4D motion theater under one roof.
- Titanic Museum Attraction (Pigeon Forge): a ship-shaped museum with a walk-through Grand Staircase replica and an iceberg wall; hours run seasonal, so reserve ahead.
- Alcatraz East Crime Museum (Pigeon Forge): fully indoors, open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
- Hollywood Wax Museum (Pigeon Forge): open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily on Showplace Boulevard, with an All Access Pass covering its indoor attractions together.
- The Escape Game (Pigeon Forge, The Island): indoor escape rooms open 8 a.m. to midnight, most games capped at 8 players.
- Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies (Gatlinburg): downtown, open 9 a.m. daily; closing time varies by date, so check the day's hours before you go.
- Ober Gatlinburg (Gatlinburg): an indoor ice rink, ice bumper cars and a carousel at the mountaintop Adventure Park, reached by tram from the downtown Tramway Mall's shops and quick bites.

Pigeon Forge's indoor attractions
Pigeon Forge concentrates its indoor attractions within a few miles of each other, mostly along the Parkway and at The Island. WonderWorks occupies an upside-down building at 100 Music Road and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the last tickets sold an hour before close. Inside are more than 100 hands-on exhibits across six Wonder Zones, plus a glow-in-the-dark indoor ropes course, a laser tag arena and a 4D XD Motion Theater, so the weather outside never touches the visit. A short drive away, the Titanic Museum Attraction at 2134 Parkway is easily recognizable by its ship-shaped building, with a walk-through Grand Staircase replica, a Father Browne Gallery of shipboard photographs, and an iceberg wall where visitors can touch 28-degree water. The museum's own site notes that hours are seasonal and capacity is limited, so a timed reservation is worth booking before you go.
Alcatraz East Crime Museum, at 2757 Parkway, is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the last ticket sold an hour before closing. The Hollywood Wax Museum at 106 Showplace Boulevard keeps similar hours, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, and its All Access Pass bundles the wax museum with Hannah's Maze of Mirrors, the Outbreak zombie lab and Castle of Chaos under one roof at a discounted price. For something more active, The Escape Game on The Island runs indoor 60-minute rooms from 8 a.m. to midnight daily, and Pigeon Forge's indoor dinner shows make another rainy-day fallback, each staged inside its own theater.
Gatlinburg's indoor attractions
Gatlinburg's biggest genuinely indoor draw is Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies at 88 River Road downtown. The aquarium's own site lists hours as 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the day checked in October 2026, but closing time can vary by date, so confirm the day you are visiting on the official hours page before you go. We cover the exhibits in detail in our Ripley's Aquarium visit guide; the short version for a rainy day is that the whole visit happens indoors. The other indoor option in Gatlinburg sits at the top of the mountain: Ober Gatlinburg's mountaintop Adventure Park has an indoor ice rink, ice bumper cars and a carousel, listed separately from the resort's outdoor rides and scenic lift. You reach the Adventure Park on an enclosed aerial tram that departs from the downtown Tramway Mall at 1001 Parkway, where there are shops and a quick bite before or after the ride. Rental skates run from toddler sizes up through adult, and children 4 and under skate free. Call ahead in late fall and winter, since the resort updates its operating hours for the season.
Which ones work for a big group
A house full of family or friends does not have to split up on a rainy day. Several of these attractions post group rates or group-booking paths worth using once a party reaches ten or more people:
- Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies offers discounted group rates for 10 or more guests, with separate pricing for reserved and walk-up groups.
- Alcatraz East Crime Museum and WonderWorks both set their group-rate threshold at 15 or more people; call ahead to book as one party.
- Hollywood Wax Museum's All Access Pass lets one group cover the wax museum, Hannah's Maze of Mirrors, the Outbreak zombie lab and Castle of Chaos at a single discounted price instead of buying separate tickets.
- Most games at The Escape Game take up to 8 players, so a group of 12 to 14 books two games; the location's events team coordinates large parties by phone or email.
Rainy days and when to plan around them
Spring showers and the mountains' unpredictable weather are exactly why trip-planners look for indoor backup options as early as March, not just in the height of summer. Pairing an outdoor-heavy day in the national park with one or two of the indoor stops above is the simplest way to rain-proof a week-long trip without canceling plans.
If the forecast calls for more than one soggy day, it helps when the rental itself has indoor things to do. Tula & Oak House, about 18 minutes from the Pigeon Forge Parkway in Sevierville, has its own private indoor heated pool, a theater room and an arcade and playroom built into the house, alongside the 5 bedrooms and bunk room that sleep 14 (see our guide to Smoky Mountain cabins with a private indoor pool for how rare that amenity is in the area). That makes it easier to fill a rainy afternoon between museum visits, especially when one group of 12 to 14 is booking a single house instead of splitting across multiple hotel rooms.
