Ober Gatlinburg: Aerial Tram & Seasonal Mountain Activities

Compare Ober Gatlinburg tram-only tickets and activity passes, plan a mountaintop visit, and understand how Ober differs from Gatlinburg SkyPark.

Ober Gatlinburg combines an enclosed aerial tram from downtown with a mountaintop adventure park and seasonal activities. Start by choosing between a scenic tram outing and an activity-focused visit. They call for different tickets and different amounts of time. The attraction has also used the Ober Mountain name, which is why both names appear in travel searches and ticket links.

First, choose the kind of day you want

  • Scenery first: look at the current tram-only ticket.
  • Several activities: compare the operator's current Fun Pass and Adventure Pass inclusions.
  • Winter sports: check seasonal operations and booking requirements separately.
  • Family needs: confirm restrictions for each chosen activity before purchasing a pass.

The official Ober site separates warmer-month, colder-month and year-round choices. Use the actual travel date when checking availability; the presence of a ride on a general attraction list does not mean it operates every day.

Riding the Gatlinburg Tram

The official tram information describes a 2.1-mile route from downtown to the mountain. This is an enclosed aerial tram, unlike SkyPark's open chairlift. Decide whether the journey itself is what your group most wants, then add activities to suit.

For a simple scenic visit, board together, spend time looking around at the top, choose a break and confirm your return plan. For a busier visit, make a short priority list before boarding so the group is not comparing every pass inclusion after arrival.

Match the pass to your group

Write down the two or three activities people actually want. Check their current operating status and participation requirements, then compare the pass that includes those activities with individual or tram-only options.

For mixed ages: choose a shared experience first, then leave room for smaller groups to split off. Agree on a meeting point at the top.

For winter plans: verify snow-sport availability, lessons, rentals and any separate reservations directly with Ober. A sightseeing ticket is not a substitute for checking the requirements of a skiing or tubing day. Ober's own ski and tubing hill is one option; groups weighing it against the indoor hill at Pigeon Forge Snow and the outdoor Slippery Slope can compare all three in our snow tubing near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg guide.

For a changing forecast: put the outdoor activities earlier or later according to current operations, and decide what would still make the visit worthwhile if one closes.

Strollers and accessibility

The tram operator says strollers must be folded and upright before boarding. It also describes accessible boarding for mobility devices when operationally available. Read the current accessibility policy for your specific requirements, including the activities at the top. Access to the tram and access to every activity are separate questions.

Pack for the mountain conditions, not only for the temperature outside your car in Gatlinburg. Confirm the final return instructions before exploring the mountaintop so the day ends comfortably.

Is Ober the same as SkyPark?

No. SkyPark's open chairlift and SkyBridge are a separate attraction. Compare the experiences before buying tickets for either one.

Can we ride only the tram?

The official tram page lists a tram-only ticket alongside passes. Check its current terms and operating schedule for the day you plan to visit.

What is a sensible alternative if our plans change?

For an indoor Gatlinburg outing, see Ripley's Aquarium. For a park introduction centered on a short forest walk, see Sugarlands. Anakeesta is the other mountaintop park above downtown Gatlinburg, if your group wants to compare the two.
